Résumé et contenu

Terrio fait le tour de la Bretagne pour avertir les Acadiens de ce que le projet de Louisiane est accepté par le gouvernement espagnol. C'est à cette occasion qu'il est attaqué par certains de ses congénères.

Notes

notes de Brasseaux : "Terrio personnally toured Brittany, urging the Acadian residents to join the anticipated migration. (January 1784)"

"The indefatigable Terrio's labors were crowned with mixed results. A small but vocal minority viewed the colonization project as a ploy to discontinue their meager dole. In Nantes, Terrio was "cursed by one, insulted by another, and threatened with murder by a third". Words were translated into action in other Acadian communities. At an inn located in an unidentified French seaport, he was accosted by three Acadian opponents of emigration. A discussion of the Louisiana colonization project soon deteriorated into a shouting match, and according to Terrio, "the most furious of the three... assaulted me like a desperado, struck me several times, and would undoubtedly have killed me if some friendly Acadians, who took his knife away, had not intervened".
