The Star was heavy on Royal tour coverage. This famous picture of the King and Queen, George VI and Elizabeth in 1939, was “set up”. An enormous picture of the King and Queen and their children, taken in London by The Star’s Gerald Richardson, was placed in front of The Star building the couple would pass in their car. Driver of the car was a friend of a Star staffer and it was arranged for him to point suddenly to the picture knowing their Majesties would instinctively turn their heads. A photographer spotted in a strategic position, got the picture. Collection Claude Bouchard
